The Chicago Riverwalk is a unique pedestrian pathway built under six principles: to bring people to the water, provide access to everyone, celebrate the history of downtown Chicago, find new economies on the river, create a unique place on the river and improve the commercial functions of the river.

Our concept builds upon the same principles with small hexagonal platform modules that serve as “boats” and may be used for various purposes such as relaxing, sailing, eating, among other activities. However, our primary desire is to give people an opportunity to have a more intimate experience with the water by touching, feeling, hearing and seeing it. The current river walk is built on the sides and allows people to walk or run by it, but the there is no way for people to be in the water.

Moreover, the bridges crossing the river break the continuity of the promenade. We propose to join our site with the neighboring pathways by means of a bridge to improve connectivity. Our design incorporates restaurants on the sidewalk of the river to improve the economy near the river and attract people to the site. Our goal is to connect people around the site in a better way as well as to provide the infrastructure needed to allow them to interact with the water.
