Puerto Ayora, the largest city within the Galapagos Islands with over 20,000 inhabitants, is located in Santa Cruz where 97% of land surface is a natural protected area. This fact, along with the particular conditions on Galapagos immigration, has resulted in a city with plenty of social, urban and environmental problems which need to be tackled soon to avoid putting in risk the invaluable natural species which lie here, but while helping improve the local economy and quality of life.

In order to propose an urban space which could help achieve the objectives mentioned before, it was fundamental to establish a work methodology. This started by doing a profound research to understand the main problems and act against them. Research was done through site analysis, by interviewing the local community and with aid of the Charles Darwin Foundation (which has been working in the Islands to preserve its natural species for the past 60 years). Afterwards, a set of key goals were set to continue looking for the optimal design strategies to reach a proposal which could achieve these key goals, and consequently help solve the aforementioned social, environmental and urban problems.
